AfriAus iLEAC CARE FINDER OUTREACH PROGRAM
Raising awareness about Care Finder services, specifically for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) senior women and men in Victoria, Melbourne
About the project
AfriAus iLEAC’s Care Finder Outreach is a collaborative project between AfriAus iLEAC and culturally and linguistically diverse senior women, to disseminate communication activities and texts about care finder services and supports to culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) senior males and females, 65 years and above, in Australia. The project engaged 22 senior females and 3 senior males.
This Program has been funded by FECCA (Federation Ethnic Communities Council of Australia) to reach out to Multicultural Communities which are challenged to navigate through the Aged Care system to access services and supports due to language barriers and the lack of someone to help.
BACKGROUND
Challenges for CALD senior communities:
– Language barriers
– Limited awareness of available services
– Cultural differences in approaching care
– Isolation and lack of family support
– Difficulty accessing services that can enhance their wellbeing and quality of life.
It is crucial to raise awareness within CALD communities to ensure seniors receive the care they need and deserve, to age with dignity.
